Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the questions we hear most often before people start using Memotto. For more, check our FAQ page.
Does it cost anything?
Everything is free right now. You can use collaborative editing and templates without any limits—just note that ads are displayed.
Where is my data stored?
Data is encrypted and stored on secure servers in Japan, and edits are reflected instantly. We also keep access logs to a minimum.
Can I edit from multiple devices?
Yes. As long as you open the same URL, you can edit simultaneously from PC, smartphone, or tablet.
Security
Anyone with the URL can access it?
Anyone with a regular memo’s URL can view and edit it. The URL is the entry point, so you can write together without signing up.
🔎 A random URL for each memo
New memos receive a URL with a random ID. IDs are not sequential, making the address difficult to guess without knowing it.
🎲 Memotto's security strength, in numbers
- 122 bits of cryptographic randomness
- 5.3×10³⁶ possible combinations
🔐 Typical password setups
- "password123" or "1234"
- Birthdays and names combined
Unlike these human-chosen passwords, memo URLs use random IDs. Being hard to guess does not restrict people who know the URL: anyone receiving a forwarded or publicly shared URL can view and edit the memo.
Send the URL only to people you want to share with. Publishing as an article also makes it available in the public memo list.
💌 Only invitees can edit (Premium)
With Premium, you can create invite-only memos that only users of the Gmail accounts you invite can edit.
